About UsThe
Driving Center is located at
1811 University Blvd. near Anderson University. We
are approximately one block west of the intersection
of highway 32 and Scatterfield Road. We are in
a safe, convenient location.
We are set up and ready to help new students and
mature drivers of central Indiana prepare for
driving or to fine tune their driving skills. Our
enterprise will prepare a student driver for the
proper, lawful use of a motor vehicle and provide
the necessary classroom instruction and road
experience sanctioned by the state of Indiana.
Our instructors combine many years (average
about 30 years each) of experience teaching in area public schools. Outside of our State of
Indiana educational endorsement in drivers training,
we are teachers of health, physical education,
science, English, and academic counseling. Some of
us are also veteran coaches of cross country,
basketball, track and
field, and baseball.
Our staff also brings together experience in
accounting, office management, business management,
computer technology, and school office personal.
Our office and instruction atmosphere is
friendly, helpful, and professional. We are dedicated to the youth of our
community and believe in them as our future leaders.
Polly and John McCord are the owners of The
Driving Center. John D. McCord is the president of The Driving
Center and is an instructor. He has taught health,
P.E. and drivers training at Madison Heights High
School (MHHS). He was also athletic director of MHHS and
Anderson High School. Because of missing the
students in the classroom, John chose to return to
the classroom and presently teaches at East Side
Middle School.
Polly is the secretary/treasurer of The
Driving Center and is the office manager. She
teaches English at Highland High School.
Dick Barnett, Joe Crouch, Jerome Foley, Joe
Jackson, and Joe Walker are also our instructors.
Dick teaches science at North Side Middle School; Joe
Crouch is a retired health teacher from Madison
Heights High School and Anderson High School; Jerome is a retired science teacher from
Highland High School. Joe Jackson retired as a
school counselor at Highland and Anderson High
Schools, and Joe Walker retired from Alexandria High
School. Mr. Walker is also still coaching for the
Anderson American Legion Baseball League.
Ben Graham is our technology specialist and
designer of our website. Pete Graham is our data
processing consultant.
Our excellent office staff includes Ann Cullop,
Cheryl Eddy, and Jody Norris. Ann formerly
worked for Purdue University at the Anderson
University campus in office management and
instruction. She is our bookkeeper and office
assistant. Cheryl, as a school secretary of
Anderson Community Schools, also works in the office
maintaining records and keeping the office up to
date with computer and program needs. Jody
brings a wealth of experience from the business
world as a retiree of General Motors. She is
our organizer and maintains our office efficiency.
